DVC was established in 1948 shortly after India's independence as a multipurpose river valley project to manage the Damodar River and its catchment area located in the eastern part of India. Spread over an area of 25,000 square kilometers, DVC (under the Ministry of Power, Government of India) is engaged in multifarious functions such as generation, transmission & distribution of power, water management, afforestation and soil conservation. The participating governments of DVC includes Government of India, Government of Jharkhand and Government of West Bengal. The installed capacity stands at 6691 MW with 8615 circuit kilometers oftransmission & distribution network. DVC supplies bulk power to eight states across India and is a major power source for steel factories, coal mines and railways.
On 7th July 2023, DVC will be completing its 75 years of operations. DVC is organizing iPSSDG as a part of this celebration.
