This is one of my many images blending a woman with a flower. I want the woman to take on part of the shape of the flower, while retaining clear recognizability as a person, yet with the key character of the flowers to also be clearly present. For these types of blends, it is best if both of the images to be blended have their subjects isolated against simple, preferably flat, backgrounds, and that both are rather simple compositions or simplified renderings. Traditional Japanese prints are great for this.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images.
To blend with the girl, I will use this photo of a traditional Japanese print from the Rijksmuseum website, which provides high-resolution images free to use and modify for any purpose, in their Rijksstudio.
I want to make the girl into a flatter image more akin to the Japanese print I will blend her with. In iColorama, I used Form/Warp so that her head fills more of the canvas. I used Style/Coherence to smooth the face, and I used Style/Flat and Effect/Blur to simplify the image. I used Adjust/Channels to change the colors to something less realistic, closer to the style of the waterlily print.
In Effect/Blend, I brought in the Waterlily image over the girl. I tried different blend modes and positions of the gray slider in Set. I did not apply yet.
Still in Effect/Blend, I resized the Waterlily image, and did not apply yet.
I tried different blend settings, but did not apply yet.
I resized and repositioned the top layer again, and applied different blend settings, and cropped.
I finished it off with Style/Coherence, Style/Flow, Adjust/Levels, some color adjustments, and Effect/Sharpen.
