For this composite image, I created a spooky interior by putting a cloudy watery floor into an abandoned stone building, and then filled the interior space with a creature, created in the Matter app, that hangs mysteriously suspended in the air.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images. I like her serious gaze.
I used Form/Warp to stretch the top of her face and enlarge the eyes. Then I painted in catchlights for more interest in the eyes, and I applied Style/Flow preset 1 at low opacity to smooth the face.
Using the Matter app, I created this object. I opened it in iColorama, where I smoothed and sharpened it.
I modified the color tone and color to the intended color of the final image.
I used this photo from Pixabay.
I also used this image that I made previously in iColorama, using Effects/Pixels and Tone/Pastel Preset 10 at high contrast.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the pixelated image on top of the scene, trying a few blending modes and opacities and feature slider settings.
I used this photo from Pixabay.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the water image onto the scene in Normal mode, using my fingers to position and resize the top layer for the desired effect, and masking out parts of the water image to fit into the desired space.
I used this photo from the Rijksmuseum website, which provides high-resolution images free to use and modify for any purpose, in their Rijksstudio.
In Effect/Blend, I blended in the frog, flipping it on the X-axis, using a brush mask.
In Effect/Blend, I blended in the Matter object in Normal blending mode, using the gray slider under Set to get rid of the black background. There is no perfect setting of the gray slider, and you can see that it got rid of some of the dark parts of the Matter object as well.
In Effect/Blend, I blended in the Matter object once again in Normal mode, and used an inverted brush mask to touch up the problem areas.
For the final touches, I used Adjust/High preset 1 and Effect/Light, for highlights. I applied a bit of Effect/Raise to the jumbly part of the Matter object, I sharpened the eyes of the Matter object in Effect/Sharpen, I did some minor color alterations including Tone/Duotone, and I applied a bit of glow.
