Continuing to explore how to simplify an image by blending two versions: one mostly color, the other mostly lines. Here I used that technique with two different images of Venice. Then I blended them both together to create an abstract image reminiscent of Venice.
I started with my photo, taken in Venice, of masks.
In iColorama, I used Style/Coherence at low opacity to smooth the image. I used Adjust/Tonelab 4 at low opacity for clarity, and I used Tone to adjust the color.
I used Style/Edges preset 1 to generate a "mostly lines" image.
I used Style/Water preset 9 to make a "mostly color" image.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the edges over the Water image.
I applied Effect/Raise at low opacity to emphasize the edges.
I used Form/Unperspecto correct the perspective.
This is a photo I took of Venice.
To simplify the image, I used Style/ET-Flow to produce the blurriness, and I used Adjust/High preset 1 at low opacity to emphasize the highlights.
I applied Style/Water preset 8 to further simiplify the image.
Now I used Effect/Raise at low opacity, to emphasize the edges.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the masks over the landscape. I tried several blend modes and slider positions. I also used the Lightness and Gray sliders under Set. The result is an abstract image reminiscent of Venice.
I used Effect/Denoise to smooth the image a bit in preparation for using Effect/Raise, and I applied Effect/Raise to emphasize the edges.
I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity for clarity.
I want to darken the edges, so I used Style/Edges preset 1.
Using Effect/Blend, I blended the edges on top of the scene, then applied a slight crop in Form/Crop.
