Distortion is one of my favorite effects. I made two versions of this image, as I experimented with some of the many ways of distorting images in iColorama.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images. I like her interesting face and forthright gaze.
I processed the image in iColorama for tone, smoothness, to fix the eyes, and to warp it. I warped her to increase the size of her eyes and forehead, for a more open expression. I used a background from the iColorama background exchange. I think this one was made by Donald Bishop.
I created this pattern in iColorama. I opened a blank white canvas. Then I made four strokes using Brush/Colorize with the Glass Edge preset, with a big square brush and black paint. I saved that black and white image. Then I opened an image of softly draped satin, and imported the black and white image as a brush mask, to get this.
Here is the image of the satin that I used in the creation of the above image.
In iColorama, using Effect/Blend, I blended a background image over the above stripes of satin. The background image I used was the same background I used above, for the girl, from the iColorama background exchange.
I opened the above image in Effect/Distort, and I used the warped girl as the second, top, image (chosen using the photo icon in the lower right of the screen).
I used Style/Tensor preset 5. As secondary image, I used the original satin image, above (chosen using the photo icon in the lower right of the screen).
To soften this image, I used Style/Coherence, and Style/Flow. To enhance the highlights, I used Effect/Light and Adjust/High preset 2. Then I used Effect/Sharpen at low opacity. Then I used Effect/Blend to blend the warped original girl over the resulting image, using Soft Light blending mode at full opacity. This is Version 1.
I continued to make another version. To the above image, I applied Style/Tensor preset 4, again the satin image as secondary image, with reduced opacity.
Using Effect/Blend, I blended the original onto the above image. In the blend, I used the gray slider under Set just a bit on its left side, to bring back in a touch of the black for her pupils. Then I used Style/Flow to smooth it, and Effect/Sharpen to apply some sharpening. This is Version 2.
