Distorting a face over a pattern has been a favorite theme of mine. Here I use a very simple pattern to create three different images using the same process. Towards the end I use a Metabrush painting to add color. I think they are very expressive.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, which is a source of copyright-free images. I like the nice blank canvas made by her face.
In iColorama, I used Form/Warp to warp her face, giving her a more interesting expression and shape.
I used the third preset under Adjust/Shadows to lighten the hair.
Now I'll create the image we will use to distort the woman over. I used Adjust/Exposure, moving the brightness slider all the way to the right, to create a blank white canvas. Then I used Brush/Colorize, in the Glass Edges preset, with a large square Basic hard brush, to draw in the black part.
Now in Effect/Distort, I distorted the woman on top of the black and white image in normal mode.
Here I used Vibrance to enhance the color of the eyes and lips.
I created this ribbon image in Metabrush. You can see how I made this brush here.
I blended the ribbon on top of the woman. I experimented with different blending modes and settings, using the gray slider and lightness slider under Set to cut out part of the ribbon
I enhanced the color in iColorama.
I used Style/Coherence to smooth the image, and I lightened and increased the contrast of the eyes in Effects/Levels. I applied Style/Flow and sharpened using Effect/Sharpen.
Now for a second version, I used the same process as above, except that I distorted the woman over the ribbon rather than blend the ribbon on top of the woman.
Here is another version using the same process as above, except that I distorted the woman over the ribbon rather than blend the ribbon on top of the woman, with a different placement of the top image.
