I use Metabrush to create transparent texture that I apply to a portrait of a woman, so that it appears as if she is seen through a veil that somewhat distorts her.
I started with the photo from the Sktchy app.
In iColorama, I smoothed the image using Effect/Denoise Smooth preset, Style/Coherence, and Style/Flow, all at full opacity. I cropped in Form/Crop.
I painted this pattern in the Metabrush app. I used a medium-sized, full opacity, hard round brush, and painted in Paint mode. My brush settings: no Spacing, no Variances, no Extras, Size Dynamics and Opacity Dynamics in the middle (zero setting).
I used this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images, as brush source in the making of the above Metabrush image. (In Metabrush, in Paint mode, you can select a brush source by touching the daisy icon on the upper left of the screen and choosing an image from the camera roll.)
In iColorama I blended the strokes with the woman, in Effect/Blend. Then I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity for some tonal separation. I used Adjust/Levels at low opacity for a bit of added contrast. I used Tone/Enhance at low opacity to tweak the color.
I used Style/Tensor preset 5 with the Amount set at the maximum, and the Opacity set at 50%.
This is the secondary image I used in Style/Tensor preset 5, above. I painted this image in Metabrush with the same settings as the previous metabrush painting, except this time in the brush settings I set Spacing to the maximum setting. In Style/Tensor preset 5, to use a secondary image, touch the photo icon at the bottom right of the screen, to select an image from the camera roll.
Style/Tensor can introduce some roughness. So I smoothed the image using Style/Coherence and Effect/Denoise.
I used Adjust/Tonelab Preset 4 at medium opacity for a bit of tonal separation.
I applied Effect/Light preset 1 at low opacity to highlight the face. Then I used Effect/Light preset 15 at low opacity for the "stars."
I used Tone/Enhance for some color contrast.
