As a result of exploring FraxHD, I have a collection of beautiful abstract images. It is always a challenge, however, to find a good way to use them in compositing an image. One way of using them is as a surface to use as an element in a blended composition. I like to zoom in to get an interesting portion of the fractal without an overwhelming amount of detail. The fractal I used here suggested some kind of outer space scene, such as the surface of an imaginary planet.
FraxHD is a fun program. The free version is easy to use. You can look at different fractals and "fly" over them to find an interesting pattern, which you can then save and reuse. Here is one that I will use to create this image.
In iColorama, I used Adjust/Tonelab 4 for clarity and depth. Then, because the fractal image is so dark, I used Adjust/Levels to lighten it without losing contrast. I used Effect/Light to emphasize the highlights, and I used Form/Crop to crop it.
I used this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images.
I blended the Pixabay image over the FraxHD image, trying several blending modes, Opacity and Feature settings, and Lightness settings in the Set panel.
Now I opened the image in the Matter app and added this globe.
I opened the resulting image in iColorama. I used Adjust/Levels to increase contrast, Effect/Light bring out the highlights, and a touch of Effect/Raise for a bit of a 3D feel.
