I wanted to figure out how to draw a cloth of fine lines over a face. Here is one way to do it.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images. I wanted a large expressive face over which to spread fine lines.
I applied Effect/Blur preset 1. I wanted a blur to smooth things, so that when I draw the lines there will not be too much detail for them to run over. Then I applied Style/Hatch preset 6 to create some fine lines. In Style/Hatch, I used sliders to move the center point to the upper right, and I moved the Size slider all the way to the right. I saved.
Now I opened the original photo and applied Effect/Blur preset 1. Again, I want a smooth surface on which to spread the lines. With this image open, I used Effect/Distort and bring back the striped image as the secondary image, using the little Photo button on the lower right of the screen. I used the Distort slider as well as repositioning the top image with my fingers, to align the top and bottom images. Try all the blending modes. This is how Multiply looks.
I went with the Screen blending mode.
I applied Style/Flow preset 1 to smooth the lines.
Using Effect/Blend, I blended back in the features of the original, using an inverted brush mask to paint them in. I saved and removed the mask.
I applied Tone/Enhance preset 2 at low opacity to brighten the color.
I wanted a less realistic image, with a more muted color palette, for simplicity. So I applied one of the Tone/Lomo presets at low opacity: try all the blending modes.
To get rid of some distracting noisy areas and further simplify the image, I applied a touch of Effect/Glow, and more Style/Flow preset 1, Then, to open up the deep shadows, in Adjust/Shadows preset 3 I moved the Highlights slider partway to the right and the Shadows slider partway to the left. Moving these sliders to the left inverts part of the image. Pretty neat!
Here I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 for depth and clarity and then preset 3 for saturation. I also brightened the reds in Adjust/Vibrance by using the Vibrance slider.
Then I used Form/Warp. In Warp, you can drag your finger to stretch a part of the image. I wanted to give her a more dramatic and mysterious expression.
To finish, I applied one of the tint presets, probably preset 12, with I think the Darken blending mode.
