I used a colorful old photo of mine to create an interesting texture in Metabrush. In iColorama, I used the texture to make a kind of mask to cover a girl's face.
I started with this image that I made previously. You can see how I made it here.
To make a texture, I used this photo of mine that I previously processed in Photoshop. It was originally a slide that I had scanned.
Using my photo of chains as a brush image in Brush/Paint mode, I created this texture in MetaBrush. I used the method I describe here. I used an INKB 11/24 brush, at medium size, 100% opacity, and with the Structure slider set to its maximum value.
In iColorama, I desaturated the girl using Tone/B&W. Then I used Effect/Blend to blend the texture on top of the girl in Multiply mode.
I used Adjust/EQ and Adjust/Levels to brighten the image and add contrast. I used Tone/Tint and an inverted brush mask to color the eyes. I used Effect/Blend and an inverted brush mask to blend the original mouth back in.
I used Adjust/Levels with an inverted brush mask to darken parts of the background that were not quite black. I used Adjust/Exposure and an inverted brush mask to lighten areas of the texture that were too dark. I used Adjust/Exposure and an inverted brush mask to lighten the whites of the eyes. I used Adjust/Exposure with an inverted brush mask to paint a highlight on the lower lip. I used Form/Crop to crop.I applied Effect/Sharpen Preset 4 for sharpness.
