Here is another image where I tried to show a face as a hollow mask floating in the night sky. Eerily lit clouds form islands of her face that has seemingly been cracked into pieces, showing the night sky in between, as if she had been a porcelain mask, empty, and now cracked. I made two versions. In the first, I added a transparent veil. In the second, I added a sliver of moon to the sky.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images.
I used one of my own photos.
In iColorama, I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 for clarity and depth, Tone/Enhance for color, and Tensor preset 1 for a smeary effect.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the image with itself flipped on the x-axis. Then I used Tone to alter the color. So now I have a more fantasy sky, more of a night-time sky. And the sky is more symmetric, which will make for an interesting blend with the girl's face.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the girl with the new sky.
Using an inverted brush mask, I used Adjust/Levels to brighten the eyes and mouth.
I used Style/Tensor preset 5, at reduced opacity, using the same altered sky image as photo input (touch the Photo button at the bottom right of the screen). This Tensor 5 step emphasizes the shapes in the sky image, giving almost a 3D effect.
Now I'll use this photo from Pixabay.
Again I used Style/Tensor preset 5, this time using the fabric image as photo input, and a low opacity brush mask over the eyes and mouth.
For finishing touches, to give the image more definition, I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 and Effect/Raise preset 1, both at low opacity. This is Version 1.
Now I'll create another version. My process is the same as for Version 1 until the Style/Tensor preset 5 step. Here, instead of reduced opacity, I used full opacity.
I made this Moon by using the brightness slider in Adjust/Exposure to reduce brightness to zero. Then using a round shape mask I made a white circle and saved the image. Then I removed the mask and in Adjust/Channels I inverted the image so that I had a black circle on a white ground. I saved that one too. Then in Effect/Blend in Multiply mode, I blended the two images, offsetting one of them. Then I used Style/Flow and Style/Coherence to smooth the pixelated edges.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the moon onto the composition in Screen blending mode, rotating it slightly.
I added Effect/Glow, using an inverted brush mask, so that it affects only the Moon.
I used Adjust/Levels with an inverted brush mask to brighten the eyes, and I added vignetting using Preset/Border. I also applied a very small touch of Effect/Raise.
In Brush/Paint, I painted in some fog over the moon at medium opacity. I matched the brush color to a nearby area.
In Effect/Blur, I used an inverted brush mask to paint some blur into the fog.
