I have a collection of beautiful abstract images from using FraxHD. I used a colorful one here, which is the basis for the glowing color created in iColorama's Style/Tensor preset 5.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images. I like his soulful expression.
In iColorama, I used Adjust/Tonelab for depth and clarity, and I used Style/Coherence to smooth the face.
FraxHD is a fun program. The free version is easy to use. You can look at different fractals and "fly" over them to find an interesting pattern, which you can then save and reuse. Here is one that I will use for this image to generate color in the next steps.
In iColorama I used Style/Tensor preset 1 to make a smeary version of the fractal. This is to get a less sharp image for the next step, but one that still retains the waves of color.
Opened the tensored fractal in Style/Tensor preset 5, and used the man as the input photo (touch the Photo button on the bottom right of the screen).
It's usually necessary to smooth the result of Style/Tensor preset 5. I used Style/Coherence to do that here.
I used an inverted brush mask to add a touch of Effect/Raise over and around the eyes for a bit of emphasis. I cropped some distracting parts from the right and left edges of the image, using Form/Crop.
I made a blurred version of the image, and using an inverted brush mask, I painted the blur over the vertical edge visible in the previous version in the lower left.
Now I lightened the image a bit, which you can do by using the gamma slider in Adjust/Levels, to bring out more of the glowing effect.
