I composited a large number of elements from various photos to create this ghost-like scene in an old abandoned house, with leaves blown in, and personalities like memories hovering from the past, presided over by a bird.
I used this photo from Pixabay, which is a source of copyright-free images.
I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity for clarity and depth. I used Adjust/High preset 1 at low opacity for sharpness.
I used Style/Coherence preset 1 at low opacity, to simplify.
I will use the window from this Pixabay image.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the window on top of the stairs image in Normal blending mode, using a brush mask to confine the blend to just the window area.
I will use the figure from this Pixabay image.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the banjo player onto the image. I used a brush mask, zooming in to carefully paint in the mask so that only the banjo player shows through, and so that his legs appear to disappear behind the landing.
I used this photo taken years ago by my Mom.
I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at medium opacity for clarity and depth, Adjust/High preset 1 for sharpness, Style/Coherence preset 1 at medium opacity to simplify, and Effect/Raise 1 medium opacity for definition.
I did four separate blends to place the Leaves on all the floor surfaces, each in Normal mode, and each with its own brush mask.
Using a brush mask to confine the effect to the window, I changed the tone of the outside leaves to match that of the leaves on the floor surfaces.
I will use the sky from this Rijksmuseum image. The Rijksmuseum website provides high-resolution images free to use and modify for any purpose, in their Rijksstudio.
I used Effect/Denoise preset 2 to simplify the image, Style/Coherence preset 1 at medium opacity to further simplify, Effect/Raise preset 1 for definition, and Form/Crop to crop.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the sky on top of the scene, using a brush mask to confine the effect to only the area beyond the railings.
I will use the figure from this Pixabay image.
I blended the woman on top of the scene, using an inverted brush mask to paint her into place.
I will use the bird from this Rijksstudio image.
In iColorama, I used Brush/Clone to remove the small bird from the image and isolate the large bird. I also used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 to increase the contrast and clarity.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the bird on top of the scene in Normal mode, using an inverted brush mask to paint it in.
Keeping the brush mask in place, I used Tone/Sepia at medium opacity and Style/Coherence preset 1 at low opacity, on the bird, to lend the bird the texture and tone of the rest of the image.
I applied Style/Coherence preset 1 and Adjust/High preset 1 at low opacity. I used a number of presents in Tone/Enhance, Tone/Sepia, Preset/Lineal, and Tone/Tint, all at low opacity, to give a more uniform color palette to the image, one that was muted and cool in color, in keeping with a ghostly aura.
Finally, I blended the image with itself in Normal mode at low opacity, resizing the top image and using a brush mask so that the cloudy areas covered the figures I wanted to turn into ghosts.
