I used one of my orchid photos to create a soft texture in Metabrush. In iColorama, I used the texture as a pattern to cover a pensive girl's face.
To make a texture, I used this photo of mine that I previously processed in Photoshop. It was originally a slide that I had scanned.
Using my photo as a brush image in Brush/Paint mode, I created this texture in MetaBrush. I used the method I describe here. I used an DryTwo 1/42 brush, at medium size, 100% opacity, and with the Extra sliders set to zero.
I will use this Pixabay photo for blending. Pixabay is a source of copyright-free images.
In iColorama, I used Form/Crop to crop the photo and smoothed it using Effect/Denoise Smooth Preset, Style/Coherence, Style/Simplify, and Effect/Glow.
In Effect/blend, I blended the texture on top of the girl in Multiply mode, sizing it and positioning it where I liked the effect.
I used Form/Crop to crop the image.
I used Adjust/EQ2 and Tone/Enhance to Adjust tone and color.
I used Effect/Blend with an inverted brush mask to paint the eyes back in from the image of the girl. I used Adjust/Exposure and an inverted brush mask to lighten the right side of the face.
I used Effect/Levels to lighten the image and increase contrast. I used the Elasticam app to thin the right eyebrow.
Here is the same girl with a different pattern. I made aggressive use of Effect/Raise preset 3 and medium opacity to try for a carved wood relief effect.
Here I used the same pattern as above, but I made the blend and sharpened in Procreate and then cropped and toned in iColorama. I used a slight amount of Effect/Raise preset 1, again going for a carved wood effect.
This was the pattern I created in Metabrush to use in the above two images. I used the same method (described here) to create this as to create the floral texture, above. I used the Artisk 13/13 brush at medium size and 100% opacity, and with the Extra sliders set to zero.
This is the brush mask I used for the texture. You can see how I made this image here.
