I used SketchClub to create layers of shapes to create a simple image of a caravan of camels in the desert. Then I used iColorama to create texture, tone, color, and drama.
I opened a blank canvas in SketchClub. I used the Vector tool to paint a shape to represent sand.
On a new layer, I used the Vector tool to create a shape to represent dunes.
On another new layer, I used the Vector tool to create a shape to represent more dunes.
On a new layer above the previous layers, I used the Vector tool to create shapes to represent windblown shapes in the sand.
On a new layer below the other layers, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for the sky.
On a new layer above the sky layer, I used the Vector tool to create a shape for a cloud.
On a new layer above the other layers, I used the Pen tool to draw lines to emphasize the shapes.
On a new layer above the other layers, I used the Vector tool to create shapes to represent camels.
On a new layer above the other layers, I used the Vector tool to create shapes to represent people and shadows.
On a new layer above the other layers, I used the Brush tool with a large soft round brush at low opacity to paint sunbeams coming from the upper right. I saved the image to my camera roll.
I opened the image in iColorama. I applied Style/Water preset 1 with the distortion slider set to zero. I experimented with the edge slider.
I used Effect/Blend to blend a textured image onto this image.
I used a couple of presets under Adjust/Tonelab at medium opacity for Tone and contrast.
In preparation for using Style/Tensor preset 6, I applied Style/Tensor preset 1. I saved the result to my camera roll.
I used Style/Tensor preset 6, using the previously saved Tensor 1 image as secondary image.
I used Effect/Raise preset 1 at low opacity and Effect/Sharpen preset 4 at low opacity, for definition.
I used Tone/Enhance to alter the colors.
I used Tone/Duotone at low opacity in Multiply mode, to tone the shadows.
