Here we view a woman through a scratched and dirty broken window, suggesting neglect. The ambiguous expression on the woman's face seems to challenge and deter the viewer.
I started with this image I created previously. You can see how I made it here.
I opened the image of the woman in the Metabrush app and painted over her in Shatter mode.
I opened the Metabrushed woman in iColorama, and using Effect/Blend, I blended the original warped woman onto the Metabrushed image in one of the negative blend modes (Difference, Negation, Exclusion), trying all the sliders, including the Lightness and Gray sliders under Set.
I used this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images, for blending with the woman. It's a beautifully textured image of a broken window.
In iColorama, in Effect/Blend, I blended the Pixabay photo over the woman. I tried several blending modes and slider settings, including the Lightness and Gray sliders under Set.
To increase contrast, I used Adjust/Levels. I used Tone/Duotone at low opacity to deepen and tone the shadows. I used Adjust/High preset 2 at low opacity for a touch of sharpness, and I applied Effect/Raise preset 2 at low opacity for definition.
To smooth some of the roughness that resulted from the blend step, I applied Style/Coherence preset 1 at full opacity. Then I applied Effect/Sharpen preset 4 at low opacity for a touch of sharpness.
