The dark mood of this piece is pierced by the intensity of the woman's gaze. The blue shadows and the paint-like bright areas are achieved through iColorama's blending function, by blending the woman with a Metabrushed version of herself.
I started with this image I created previously. You can see how I made it here.
I opened the image in the Metabrush app, and painted over her using the Wet and Texture modes.
I opened the Metabrushed image in iColorama, and using Effect/Blend, I blended the original warped woman onto the Metabrushed image in Difference mode, trying all the sliders, including the Lightness and Gray sliders under Set.
For finishing touches, I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity for for a bit of tonal separation, Effect/Glow at low opacity to pull out the highlights, Tone/Duotone in Overlay mode at low opacity to deepen and add a blue tone to the shadows, and Effect/Raise at low opacity for definition.
