I created this image during a period in which I was experimenting in depth with Effect/Distort. I was creating different patterns in iColorama, and then using them to try to distort another image over. In this image, I used the iColorama bird brushes (one of the brush groups available in Brush) on a blank canvas to create an interesting pattern. Then I used a classic painting to distort over that image, for a unique result.
I started with this photo from the Rijksmuseum website, which provides high-resolution images free to use and modify for any purpose, in their Rijksstudio.
I painted with iColorama's bird brushes on a blank canvas.
Then with the bird canvas open in iColorama, I used Effect/Distort and the original Rijksmuseum painting as the top image.
I tried a different blending mode. I also used the distort sliders, and I used my fingers to move the image around relative to the bird canvas, and to stretch and shrink woman image until I got what I wanted.
I cropped, and applied some finishing touches in iColorama for smoothness and color.
