I've spent some time playing with FraxHD, and have a collection of lovely abstract images from it. I'm always alert to how I may use them in a composite image. Here I used two fractal images to add color and texture to a portrait, in iColorama. For a finishing touch, I used the Matter app to add "jewelry."
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images.
In iColorama, I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 and Style/Coherence preset 1, both at low opacity, to smooth the image. Because I will be blending with fractal images that have a lot of detail, I want to make the base image smooth.
FraxHD is a fun program. The free version is easy to use. You can look at different fractals and "fly" over them to find an interesting pattern, which you can then save and reuse. Here is one that I will use for this image for blending over the woman.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the FraxHD image onto the woman. I used my fingers to move and resize the top image until I liked the result. I tried several blending modes and slider positions. Using the gray slider under Set often means you can avoid some masking. I felt the colors in the fractal complement the color of her dress.
Here I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 and Adjust/High preset 1 to bring out the fractal a bit more.
This is another fractal from FraxHD. I'll use it to blend over the background of the image.
In Effect/Blend, I blended the second FraxHD image onto the composition, masking out a few areas such as her eyes. I'm using this fractal for a 3D texture for the image, with lines radiating from the woman, and also because the colors complement those already in the composition.
Using the Matter app, I added in objects one by one, each time masking out (in Matter) areas of the objects that I didn't want. I gave her an earring, a necklace and a pendant.
Back in iColorama, I optimized for tone and color using Adjust/Tonelab, Tone, and Adjust/Levels.
