It was autumn, and the red guitar complemented the autumn leaves that were everywhere around. Here I did a relatively straightforward blend of autumn leaves over the guitar and its background. But even this simple task calls for attention to the details.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, which is a source of copyright-free images.
I plan to blend with this photo, taken by my Mom.
First, I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 low opacity, for clarity and depth.
Then I applied Adjust/High preset to bring out the highlights and for some sharpness.
I applied Style/Coherence preset 1 at medium opacity, for smoothness.
I used Effect/Raise preset 1 medium opacity, for definition.
Now opening the guitar image in iColorama, I applied Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity, for some clarity and depth.
Using Effect/Blend, I blended the leaves onto the guitar in Normal mode at medium opacity, masking out the background as well as the metal and plastic features of the guitar. I applied, but did not remove the mask.
This is the brush mask I painted for the above blend step.
Inverting the brush mask, in Effect/Blend, I again brought in the Leaves image on top of the guitar image, this time in Multiply blend mode, at medium opacity. So that the effect would not apply to the metal and plastic features of the guitar, I had to paint more onto the mask. I applied and removed the brush mask.
Here is the modified brush mask for the above blend step.
I did some color optimizations using Tone/Enhance, a very small touch of Effect/Glow preset 3, and I applied Effect/Raise preset 1 at low opacity, for the final image.
