In this image, a ghostly face of awoman gazes through a broken window.
I started with this photo from the Sktchy app. Because Sktchy photos are so small, I upsized it twice in the BigPhoto app. Upsizing isn't as good as starting with a high resolution image. But it provides a canvas with enough pixels to create a high-quality result. This is because painting in iColorama and Metabrush creates new pixels that replace the previous ones.
I opened the image in the Metabrush app. On a new layer, I painted over the image in Caustic mode. Then on another new layer, I painted over the face in Texture mode. Then on another new layer, I painted in Source mode to bring back her features. Then I adjusted the layer opacities to get a result I liked.
I will use this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images, to blend with.
In iColorama, using Effect/Blend, I blended the Pixabay photo over the woman. I tried several blend modes and slider settings.
I used Effect/Glow at full opacity. I saved but did not apply. I will use this image later.
I used Effect/Glow at partial opacity. This time I applied.
I imported the above image as a new layer in Metabrush, over my previous layers. Then on another new layer, I painted in Source mode on middle of face, which brings back some of the original image. I saved this. I'll call this Image A.
On a new layer, in Metabrush, in Paint mode, I painted this pattern. I was using a Lines brush. In brush settings, I used a large spacing.
This is the brush source I used for the above image. It's a pattern I created in iColorama and uploaded to the iColorama background exchange on flickr.
In iColorama, using Effect/Blend, I blended the Metabrush pattern on top of Image A. I tried several blending modes and slider settings. Then, using Adjust/Levels, I Increased the contrast of the eyes, using an inverted brush mask to apply the effect to only the eyes.
I applied Tone/Tint low opacity for a touch of warmth.
I used Form/Deforms twice, once on each eye, to enlarge eyes. Use the Scale and Magnify sliders to control the size and extent of the effect, and use the x and y settings to position the effect over an eye.
I used Style/Flow at low opacity to smooth the image a bit.
Using Effect/Blend, now I blended the previously saved Glow image on top of the above image. I tried several blend modes and slider settings.
For emphasis, I applied Effect/Raise Preset 2 to the eyes, using an inverted brush mask.
Now to make another version. Going back to Image A, I fine-tuned the color in Tone/Tint at low opacity. Then in Adjust/Levels, I increased contrast for the eyes, using an inverted brush mask. Keeping the mask in place, I used Tone/Tint at medium opacity to add color to the eyes.
