I continue to explore how to simplify an image by blending two versions: one mostly color, and the other mostly lines. Here I compare two different ways of making lines and their impact on the final image.
I started with this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images. I like the interesting skyline.
First we'll create the "mostly color" version. I used Style/Water preset 9. It makes a very soft image. Save but do not apply.
Now we'll make the "mostly lines" version. I used Style/Flow preset 1 at medium opacity, to smooth the image, in preparation for making the lines.
Now I used a preset in Style/Edges. I tried several different presets and slider settings.
Here I used an alternative way of creating edges, using Style/ET-Flow. Try all the sliders, including the ones in the Settings panel. ET-Flow makes very wavy, even turbulent, lines.
This is a blend of the edges over the Water image, in Darken mode, using Effect/Blend. The city is still recognizable.
This is a blend of the ET-Flow image over the Water image, in Darken mode, using Effect/Blend. It gives a kind of sci-fi illustration effect.
