A Metabrush texture gives a pattern of typewriter texture to the face. The letters were raised in iColorama for more emphasis. In one version, splotches of color add drama. A second version uses delicate tones for a completely different feel.
I started with this image I made previously. You can see how I made it here.
I used Effect/Scrape to produce this image, experimenting with all the slider settings. I won't use it yet, but will use it in a later step. Call this Image A.
I will reuse this Metabrush image I created previously. You can see how I made it here.
In iColorama, using Effect/Blend, I blended the texture on top of the woman in Difference mode. I tried several blending modes and all the slider settings, including the Lightness and Gray sliders under Set. The two images I blended here are the same ones I blended for this image, but with different settings in Effect/Blend.
I used a preset in Adjust/Tonelab to lighten the image.
I applied Adjust/Levels to increase contrast.
I used Tone/Sepia in darken mode to reduce the color palette of the image.
I used Style/Painterly with the Blur Paint preset at medium opacity to soften the image, which was very noisy as a result of the blend step.
I used Effect/Blend to blend the previously saved Image A (the scraped image we created earlier) on top of the above image, in Difference mode. I tried several blending modes and all the slider settings, including the Lightness and Gray sliders under Set.
Here is a different result from this blend step, also in Difference mode, but with different settings. I will save this one for later. I'll call this Image B.
I used Adjust/Levels to brighten the image and adjust contrast, and I used Adjust/Tonelab preset 4 at low opacity for a bit of clarity.
I applied Tone/Sepia in darken mode to reduce the color palette.
I used Tone/Enhance at low opacity to tweak the color, removing a slight yellow cast.
I used Effect/Denoise and Style/Painterly with the Blur Paint preset, both at low opacity, to soften the image, which was noisy as a result of the blend.
I applied Effect/Raise preset 8 to get these blue-green splotches over the image. I used the hue slider to alter the color of the blotches, and experimented with the other sliders as well.
I used Effect/Blend to blend the original over the work in progress, using an inverted brush mask to paint in only the eyes and lips.
I used Effect/Sharpen to sharpen the eyes, using an inverted brush mask to paint in the effect only on the eyes. I removed the mask. Then I used Effect/Raise preset 2 on the more prominent letters, using an inverted brush mask, to give them more emphasis.
I used Adjust/Exposure to lighten the whites of the eyes, using an inverted brush mask. I removed the mask. Then I brightened the image slightly in Adjust/Levels, and applied Tone/Duotone at low opacity to slightly tone and deepen the shadows.
Now I will make a new variation. I will start with Image B, which I created earlier and saved for now. I used Effect/Blend to blend the original over Image B, using an inverted brush mask to paint in only the eyes and lips.
I want to change the eye color to a magenta tone to better match the tones in the image. First, I remove the blue eye color by applying Tone/Sepia, using an inverted brush mask to apply the effect to only the eyes. Then I removed the mask, and applied Effect/Raise at low opacity to the image, to emphasize more of the alphabet texture.
Now I used Tone/Enhance to apply a new eye color, using an inverted brush mask to apply the color only to the eyes. Then, removing the mask, I used Effect/Sharpen at low opacity to sharpen the image.
To soften the image a bit, I applied Style/Simplify preset 17 at low opacity.
I used Adjust/Levels to fine tune the contrast.
