I knew I could create some great hair in Metabrush for this laughing girl. The image is enhanced by the use of strong, complementary colors. I added texture to hold the separate elements together.
I started with this photo from the Sktchy app. I love the laughing expression on her face, and the way her hair is all splayed out. I knew I could create some great hair for her in Metabrush.
In iColorama, I used Form/Warp to enlarge her head.
I wanted to use eyes from another image. Using Effect/Blend, I blended an image of a doll over the girl. To position the doll's eyes over the girl's eyes, I reduced opacity to 50%, and used my fingers to position and resize the top image. I used the Rotate slider to rotate the top image a bit, then put opacity back to 100% and painted in the eyes from doll, using an inverted brush mask.
For the eyes, I used this photo from Pixabay, a source of copyright-free images.
In the Metabrush app, I painted all over the girl in Plane mode, for a painted look.
In Metabrush, on a new layer, I painted this hair. By turning off all other layers, I could save just the layer I painted the hair on. I used Paint mode. I used Gradient 17 brush, which is a hollow, round brush (hard on the outside, soft on the inside), which is a great brush for making hair in Metabrush.
This is the image I used for the brush source for painting the hair. It's a photo of mine that I smoothed in iColorama. In Metabrush, select the brush source using the daisy button on the upper left edge of the screen.

Now, I opened the image in iColorama. Using Effect/Blend, I blended the hair on top of the Metabrushed girl, using my fingers to move it and resize it for the best result, before applying.
In Texture/Vintage, I applied a texture to the image. I chose a texture with color consistent with the image, and used low opacity.
I applied a second vintage texture in Texture/Vintage. This time I applied the texture to just the hair and background, using a brush mask to protect the figure.
In Texture/Vintage, I applied a texture to the dress, using an inverted brush mask. I selected a texture with color complementary to the red/orange that was dominant in the image. The green of the dress also pulls out the spots of green in the hair.
I enhanced the color of the hair and background in Tone/Enhance, using a brush mask to protect the face and body. I smoothed a few rough areas using Style/Coherence and an inverted brush mask. I applied a small touch of Effect/Raise preset 2 for emphasis.
In Brush/Paint,I used a soft round brush to paint in catchlights in the eyes, then I used Style/Flow and an inverted brush mask to soften the catchlights. Then with the brush mask still in place, I applied a bit of Effect/Raise preset 2 to the catchlights. I created a border by flipping the image upside down in Form/Mirror, then applying Effect/Scrape. I applied, then in Effect/Blend I blended the unscraped image onto the scraped image, making it just a bit smaller to reveal the scraped image around the edges. Then I applied Preset/Border preset 1 at low opacity to darken the border. Then I applied Preset/Border preset 8 at low opacity to give a bit of whiteness near the borders.
I modified the eyes using the Elasticam app, to enlarge them and give them a more laughing appearance.
