About
The Iowa Food Hub (IFH) is an innovative business working to connect farmers, families, and food grown close to home. IFH manages the aggregation, distribution, and marketing of source-identified food products from local and regional producers to strengthen their ability to satisfy wholesale, retail, and institutional demand.
Allamakee New Beginning, Inc. is the 501(c)3 sponsor organization of the food hub.
Primary Activities:
Farm to School
Local food procurement and sales
Delivery services for hire
New market development and research with a focus on schools, institutions and grocery stores
Like a demonstration farm, IFH advisors and staff conduct research, and what is learned is transferred through educational programs and materials for the farmers to learn what works and doesn’t work. Farmers can apply this new knowledge to their farm with less risk than had they done the research themselves. IFH and its partners have been successful in securing private and public grant funds to develop this business model as an example for other organizations and to offer this specialized type of technical assistance to farmers and food producers.
IFH programming focuses on:
Small and medium-sized farm viability
Food access and equality
Local economic development
Job creation and retention
Beginning and established farmers
Food System research and education
