Why focus our attention on reading the Word of God over our respective communities, counties, states, nation, and the nations of the world?
Psalm 119 “Meditations on the Excellencies of the Word of God” goes into detail about the Word of God. I chose 10 of my favorite verses to share with you below, and I found this site with some amazing insights into this Psalm: 10 Things to Know About Psalm 119 by Kevin Halloran
11 Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
~~~
72 The Law of Your Mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver.
~~~
89 Forever, O Lord, Your Word is settled (stands firm) in heaven.
~~~
105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
~~~
114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word.
~~~
130 The entrance of Your Words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.
~~~
133 Direct my steps by Your Word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me.
~~~
160 The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever. (I quote this often)
~~~
162 I rejoice at Your Word as one who finds great treasure.
~~~
164 Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your Righteous Judgments.
When? We do this through TWO different Bible Reading Marathons.
(1) Iowa (USA) opportunity:
In the beginning, it was Genesis to Revelation at the State Capitol then on the county courthouse lawns in Iowa. This year begins our 10th consecutive year and approximately 40 counties of 99 are still reading Genesis to Revelation during the months of June through November.
How?
Commitment: A county leader and co-leaders take approximately 4-6 weeks to setup a countywide Bible Reading Marathon. Readers usually commit to reading approximately 30 minutes of scripture at a set date, time, and place in the reader’s county.
2025 Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon.
(2) Worldwide opportunity:
A second Bible Reading Marathon was birthed by inviting all other states and nations to join us for a Worldwide Bible Reading Marathon on July 14 beginning at 7:14 am in the reader’s time zone. Second Chronicles 7:14 is our motivating scripture.
How?
Commitment: Connect with Dianne Bentley, dianne@biblereadingmarathon.us
Read (alone or with friends) scripture assigned by Dianne for one hour on a governmental seat or a place of safety in your area on July 14, beginning at 7:14 am.
This website has become our way of inviting you to join us in this God inspired endeavor. Read through the Invitation to the Nations for the history of the event.
