The Intolerance of Uncertainty (IOU) Laboratory conducts multi-method research to examine the psychophysiological and neural basis of uncertainty sensitivity. More specifically, the IOU lab investigates how Intolerance of Uncertainty impacts different behaviours that may be relevant to a number of mental health conditions (i.e. anxiety, stress, mood, and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders). The principles of open science are central to our research to improve the quality, transparency, and reproducibility of our findings.
We have strong international collaborations with other researchers examining Intolerance of Uncertainty and have established links with key mental health stakeholders (e.g. public and third sector). These partnerships are essential for maximising the societal impact of our research, particularly in developing clinical applications for mental health conditions.
Our lab is committed to championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of our research and applications to real-world challenges. Advocating these principles advances science and societal wellbeing by fostering an innovative and representative research environment. The IOU lab is dedicated to cultivating an accessible and inclusive environment where every lab member and collaborator feels valued, supported, and empowered to bring their full selves and ideas.
The IOU lab is based in the Department of Psychology at the University of Southampton, UK. If you would like location details for the IOU lab please go to the contacts page. Otherwise, connect via Blue Sky, Google Scholar, and LinkedIn.
