Internet of Things: A Hardware Development Perspective

Part of the Prospects in Networking and Communications – P-NetCom Series

The latest information, communication and storage technologies such as Internet of things (IoT), wireless sensor networks (WSN), cloud computing, edge computing, fog computing, cyber-physical system (CPS) brings new business model and market. With the advent of Internet of Things, a deluge of devices is being connected to the network and are generating a large amount of data. According to Gartner research, 75 billion “things” will be connected to the Internet by 2025. The growth of the IoT demands for many architectural features such as processor speed, memory and efficient communication protocols. This book will be excellent collection of chapters dealing with the conceptual and practical knowledge of the latest tools and methodologies of hardware development for Internet of Things and variety of real-world challenges. The topics cover the state-of-the art and future perspectives of Internet of Things technologies, where industry experts, researchers, and academics had shared ideas and experiences surrounding frontier technologies, breakthrough and innovative solutions and applications.

The reader will find in this book a variety of design techniques and applications in an IoT hardware setting. Most aspects of various hardware technologies, methodologies, and communication protocol such as Formal Design flow for IoT Hardware, Design approaches for IoT Hardware, IoT Solution Reference Architectures and Instances, Simulation, Modelling and Programming Framework , Hardware basics of sensors for IoT, Configurable Processor and Technology for IoT and real-life examples and studies will be critically examined in this book. The work in this book can be seen as a continuation of the quest for building hardware for IoT systems.

Aim: The book aims to contribute to the knowledge and efficacy of scholars, students, and professional by publishing theoretical, empirical and applied contributions on the hardware and communication perspective of the Internet of things. The book identifies key technological facet that supports the relevance of hardware perspective of IoT, and discusses the benefits and challenges to dominate the next decades.
