Introduction to Programming

Short Description: Short introduction to Informatics and Computer Science. The notion of algorithm as a finite sequence of instructions for the solution of problems and the notion of programming languages as a rigorous means of algorithm expression. The “C” language, its main characteristics, and the compilation and execution process of programs. The program structure in “C”, the basic programming commands and the flow control commands of the language. Simple data types, variable declaration, operators, and expressions. Arrays (of one or more dimensions), search and sorting in arrays. Elementary data structures, abstract data types, structures and unions. Pointers, relation between pointers and arrays, strings and pointers, type conversion, pointers to records, dynamic memory allocation. Linear lists, simply connected lists, queues, stacks, doubly connected lists. Trees and graphs, binary search trees. Programming Lab (Chosen language: “C”).

Computer Programming

Short Description: Top-down techniques, modular, and structured engineering for the production of large programs. Advanced dynamic data structures, basic file processing techniques (serial or random access). Classes and objects. Programming with objects. Operators, variables, methods, relations, dependencies, class diagrams. Functions: declaration, definition, overloading functions. Pointers, references, advanced functions, operator overloading. Inheritance. Polymorphism. Exception handling, error detection and handling. Programming with templates and template libraries. Object-oriented analysis and design. Design models. Predefined libraries. Programming Lab (Chosen language: “C++”).

Applied programming using Python

Short Description: Introduction to Python High-Level Applied Programming. In-depth presentation of basic theoretical topics for Python programming (Introduction to Algorithms - Flowcharts, Variables and Expressions, Data Structures, Flow Control Structures, Functions, Overview, Search-Classification, Tables as a Data Structure, Data Input and Output in files). Introductory presentation to advanced Python programming topics (Exceptions & debugging, Classes and objects). Programming of modern integrated applications using ready libraries where necessary: arcade game, data visualization application, Raspberry Pi application programming, speech recognition application, web scraping application, vehicle sign recognition application, multiple sequences’ alignment application, a simple API.
