The history of IONBALL starts here.

THE SPORT CALLED IONBALL

Invented by Lorenz L. Fuentes, Ionball is a team sport of 5 players each played against another team.

The objective is to shoot the ball to the hoop and a teammate must catch the ball to score.

The team with the highest score at the end of the game, wins.

The IONBALL field/court

Why named it IONBALL?

ions- in chemistry, means a charged atom, where if it is either positively charged (Cation) or negatively charged (Anion). It is based on the number of electrons, the greater the number of electrons, the more negative the atom is.

To seek balance, negatively charged materials tend to act as donor (of electrons), and positively charged materials tend to act as an acceptor (of electrons) which result to the phenomenon called static electricity.

so I decided to name the sport IONBALL as the ball is comparable to the electron, and the thrower and the catcher of the ball represents the donor and the acceptor of the electron, respectively.

The Almost Name?

I almost named the sport HYPERBALL. Which inspired from the word "hyperbola".

In analytical geometry, hyperbola is one of the 4 conic sections, which include circle, ellipse and parabola.

I named it hyperball due to my plan before to inspire the court structure to how hyperbola is visualized in geometry.

TIRA-SALU

TIRA-SALU is the Bisaya/Cebuano term of IONBALL, which means Throw (or Shoot) - and Catch.
