This is when hair loss is simply hereditary. Female heredity hair loss is usually permanent, influenced by levels of sex hormones. This is by far the most common form of hair loss and represents the highest percentage of the woman we help. This is a common autoimmune disease where the body’s own immune system attacks the hair follicles; the result is the loss of hair on the scalp or elsewhere on the body. Alopecia areata is the most frequent cause of inflammation-induced hair loss. It usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). Alopecia areata affects more than 6.5 million people in the United States alone! It affects both children and adults, and hair of all colors.

This common skin disease is highly unpredictable and cyclical. Hair can grow back in or fall out again at any time, and the disease course is different for each person. Currently available evidence suggests that alopecia areata can be considered a T-cell–mediated autoimmune disease in which the gradual loss of protection provided by immune privilege of the normal hair follicle plays an important role. However, while Alopecia areata is highly common, there is a lot we don’t yet understand about it. Sadly, there are no known medical solutions for this condition at this time.
To identify root causes of your hair loss, contact your dermatologist or endocrinologist and explain your hair loss. They will likely suggest a hormone panel to explore and find answers.
This is self-inflicted, excessive plucking of the eyebrows, eyelashes and hair. Stress is the biggest contributing cause for this plucking. While there isn’t technically a “cure” for this, therapy, certain medications, life coaching, acupuncture, and grafted non–surgical hair systems are common treatments.
