Privacy Policy — Investopedia
Your privacy comes first
Last updated: July 2026
App name: Investopedia
Package: com.investopedia.app
No account. No sign-in. No personal information is collected by Investopedia from you as an app user.
Bookmarks, saved dictionary terms, lesson progress, quiz scores, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. This page explains exactly what the app does and does not do with your data.
1. Our Commitment to Privacy
Investopedia is a free financial education app built for learning investing basics, personal finance, market concepts, and money management — with no account required, no payments, and no real-money transactions.
We designed Investopedia so you can read articles, browse the finance dictionary, use calculators, complete lessons, and track your learning progress without creating an account, without signing in, and without sharing your personal contact details with us. Protecting your privacy is a core principle of this product.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following from you as an app user:
Your name
Your phone number
Your email address
Your home or mailing address
Your date of birth
Government identifiers (SSN, ID numbers, etc.)
Photos, contacts, or camera data
Precise GPS location
No sign-up, login, OTP verification, email verification, social login, or registration is ever required to use Investopedia.
3. Information Stored On Your Device
To power your learning experience, Investopedia stores the following locally on your device only (Android DataStore preferences):
Bookmarked articles and saved dictionary terms
Lesson completion progress and quiz scores
App settings (dark mode and notification preferences)
Learning progress and quiz performance statistics
This information is not uploaded to our servers and is not linked to your identity as an app user. Data you manage in the app remains on your device — we do not receive it as personal user profile data.
4. Local, On-Device Processing
Investopedia is designed for local processing wherever possible. Core features — including the finance dictionary, educational articles, financial calculators, market learning modules, quizzes, and settings — run on your device using locally stored data and built-in educational content.
Your bookmarks, favorites, lesson progress, and preferences are not sent to our servers for storage or processing. You can use most learning features offline after the app is installed, though an internet connection is needed to load advertisements.
5. Educational Content Only
All articles, dictionary definitions, lessons, quizzes, calculators, and market learning content in Investopedia are provided for educational and informational purposes only. They do not constitute financial advice, investment recommendations, or guarantees of financial returns.
We do not process payments, deposits, withdrawals, brokerage services, or financial transactions within the app. Calculator results are estimates for learning purposes only.
6. Advertising
Investopedia displays advertisements through Google AdMob to help keep the app free to use. Ad formats may include full-screen interstitial ads when you navigate between screens, open learning content, complete a quiz, or finish a lesson.
Google and its advertising partners may collect and use information such as your device's advertising ID, approximate location (derived from IP address), app interactions with ads, and technical device data to deliver, measure, and improve ads. This data is handled according to Google's policies, not stored by us as a personal user profile.
You can limit ad personalization on your device through:
Android Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization
For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy at: https://policies.google.com/privacy
7. Third-Party Services
Google AdMob is used to serve advertisements in Investopedia. We do not send your saved bookmarks, dictionary favorites, lesson progress, quiz scores, or app preferences to AdMob as personal profile information.
If you share an article using your device's standard share options, that sharing is handled by your device and the app you choose — we do not receive copies of shared content unless you explicitly send it to us.
8. Cookies and Tracking
The app itself does not use browser cookies. We do not operate our own analytics or cross-app tracking services within Investopedia.
Advertising partners (such as Google AdMob) may use identifiers permitted by your device and Android settings to measure ad performance. We do not build personal profiles about you based on your in-app learning activity beyond what is required for ad delivery through AdMob.
9. Network and Permissions
Investopedia requests only the permissions it needs to function:
Internet — required for loading and displaying advertisements through Google AdMob
Network state — used to check connectivity before ad requests
Advertising ID — used by Google AdMob to serve and measure ads
We do not request access to contacts, camera, calendar, SMS, microphone, biometric authentication, or precise location.
There is no sign-in or account permission prompt when you open Investopedia. Your locally saved learning data remains on your device during normal app use.
10. Data Security
Because we do not collect personal information or account credentials from you as an app user, there is no personal login profile that can be compromised on our servers.
Your bookmarks, saved terms, lesson progress, quiz scores, and preferences remain on your device unless you explicitly share content outside the app.
App preferences are stored using Android DataStore on your device. You can clear all locally stored data at any time through your device settings.
11. Children's Privacy
Investopedia is intended as a financial education utility. It is designed as a learning tool and does not require personal information from children or adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
12. Your Choices and Rights
Because we do not collect identifying information about you as an app user, there is no personal account or profile to delete on our side. You can fully reset your app data at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app storage:
Settings → Apps → Investopedia → Storage → Clear storage
Package identifier: com.investopedia.app
Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored bookmarks, saved dictionary terms, lesson progress, quiz scores, and app preferences from the app's private storage area.
13. Changes to This Policy
If this policy is updated, the revised version will be available within Investopedia on this screen. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
