This workshop aims to identify the major challenges and opportunities in inverse design of soft robotics, and to bring together disparate sub-communities to brainstorm about systematic design thinking. We have structured the workshop as follows in order to catalyze discussion and most effectively cover a diverse set of topics:
1. Long talks: Young professors and leading experts will speak for 15-minutes about their research, to preface topics and set the stage for key questions/challenges.
2. Short talks: Postdocs, doctoral students, and industry professionals have been invited to speak for 8-minute blocks following long talks, providing insight on their high-impact work in a sub-discipline of the topic.
3. Decompression periods: After each topic, there is a designated “decompression period” in which further questions/debate/discussion may ensue.
4. Panel discussion: An interactive panel discussion with leading professors in each topic will serve to contemplate key questions in the field through an expert lens, such that workshop participants may engage in multi-disciplinary, open dialogue with one another.
