Fruits and vegetables in the garden offer a great way to stay healthy and obtain many of the daily nutrients that you need to thrive! Here's a list of a few of the plants growing this year and some of the nutrients that they can give you.
Kale and Collard Greens: these two cultivars of brassica plant have large leaves and lots of vitamins. They are extremely high in vitamin C and K, and have moderate to high amounts of other vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, manganese, iron, the various vitamin Bs, and numerous more. All of these foods are also low calories in comparison to processed food, making them great alternatives. Take a few leaves from the food shelf when they're available and enjoy a wonderful, really healthy snack.
Tomatoes: these red fruits, often used in pasta sauce, don't have a ton of nutrients compared to the superfood kale, but nonetheless have a good amount of vitamin C and moderate to low amounts of other nutrients.
Okra: this green pod is very popular in the United States. It contains a good amount of vitamins C, K, B5, and B9, and also has a good amount of magnesium metal.
Bell Peppers: the non-spicy variety of pepper, these vegetables have a high amount of vitamins A, B6, and K.
Basil: this herb in the mint family has a surprising amount of nutrition- containing good amounts of vitamins A, B6, B9, C, and K and the minerals calcium copper, iron, magnesium, and manganese.
