BOARD MEMBERS | 2017-2018
PRESIDENT
Patrick Gall works with the Aurora Research Institute in the Technology Development and runs a bicycle mechanic shop. Patrick is an avid cyclist and gear-head, but recently dove (sometimes literally) into skiing.

VICE-PRESIDENT
Holly Jones works as a Communications Specialist with the Gwich’in Land and Water Board. Holly has ski raced on the Canadian varsity and national circuits and has been coaching (and loving fast downhills) for 10 years.

TREASURER
Brandon Johnston works as a Senior Account Manager at Inuvialuit Corporate Group. Brandon is a dad to 3 little skiers and a multi-sport athlete who recently competed in the 2017 Race the Peel canoe race from Fort McPherson to Aklavik, NT.

SECRETARY
Vanessa Cunningham works as a Fisheries Resource Specialist at the Fisheries Joint Management Committee. An avid runner and cyclist, she is a great new asset to our Board team!

CO-DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE
Jay Frandsen works as a Resource Management Officer with Parks Canada, and works on trail maintenance and grooming with the Inuvik Ski Club. When he’s not making fast tracks, Jay hikes, camps, and plays sports.

Sasha Olekshy works as a Visitor Safety Coordinator with Parks Canada and is a travel and adventure enthusiast. He loves trail maintenance so much, he owns his own chainsaw!

JOIN THE BOARD
Club members can participate on the Inuvik Ski Club Board of Directors to advise on club operations, trail development, and skiing/recreation programming. A director is elected for a two year term, and there are many opportunities for training and development as a Board member.
If you are:
- An open-minded, flexible, and innovative leader;
- Prepared to attend monthly board meetings;
- Familiar with or willing to learn board policies and procedures, and;
- Interested in contributing to the Inuvik & Beaufort-Delta ski community;

INSURANCE
Nordiq Canada maintains liability insurance for all clubs registered with Cross Country NWT. This coverage applies to all Inuvik Ski Club Members when involved in a ski-related activity.
It is mandatory that all Members and participants in Inuvik Ski Club programs sign an Informed Consent and Assumption of Risk Agreement, either electronically upon purchasing a membership, or separately by completing and submitting a paper Informed Consent and Assumption of Risk Agreement to the Club.
APPROACH TO SPORT
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) has five calls to action relating to sport and recreation:
#87 Tell stories of Indigenous athletes.
#88 Ensure long-term Indigenous athlete development and growth.
#89 Change the Physical Activity and Sport Act to reduce barriers and increase Indigenous sport participation.
#90 Ensure sport policies, programs and initiatives are inclusive and reflect Indigenous culture and anti-racism awareness.
#91 Ensure International sporting events involve Indigenous peoples and respect territorial protocols.
Ideas to support these calls to action in your program:
- Use a co-leadership approach.
- Learn about the culture and the community you live in.
- Speak to elders and learn about community protocol and traditions.
- Find ways to include cultural aspects into your program.
- Introduce ceremonies, songs, and dance as a way to celebrate or honour guests.
- Learn about and honour protocols of host communities when you travel.
