Great news! Dr. Kwon's paper is now available, evaluating spatial equality of DC fast charging infrastructure: A case study of California.
As the demand for public EV charging infrastructure continues to increase, it is a significant challenge for planners and policymakers to distribute public EV charging infrastructure in suitable areas. While inadequate access and inequitable distribution of charging infrastructure between urban and rural areas are growing concerns, the existing literature has not paid much attention to understand them.
This study aims to assess the spatial distribution of DC fast charging infrastructure with a focus on differences between urban and rural areas in California.

Great news! Dr. Kwon's paper is out, exploring new tools for modeling home and commute charging demand: a California case study.
Although it seems obvious to deploy charging stations where EVs are expected to be charged, it could be challenging to accomplish in practice it completely depends on current demand forecasting. Most studies are based on residential locations that use large geographical scales and tend to ignore commuting and the difference in the mode share of urban and rural areas. In fact, since most out-of-home charging occurs at or near the workplace, it is important to focus on car commuters to estimate out-of-home charging demand. In this context, this study identifies the out-of-home charging demand, focusing on destination-based commuters and their mode share.
This was my first research project at the UC Davis-ITS EV(Electric Vehicle) Research Center.
