Nature camps for children 5-12 years old in San Luis Obispo County
Join us for this fun-filled nature-based camp in SLO County where we explore our local flora and fauna, make new friends, and build confidence in nature. Your camp leader, Julia has a decade and a half of leading children in natural settings, and inspiring them to develop their curiosity and love for the earth.
Into the Wild came into being in 2018 as a nature-based program for homeschoolers and branched into summer camps by popular demand. Our philosophy is that children should spend much of the day outdoors to foster their innate craving for experience and mastery of their natural environment. We facilitate a deeper connection with local ecology through place based learning and play, while physically empowering children to interact with their environment. Our goal is to develop and foster awareness and compassion for all living things and the world we live in. FUN is our pathway to achieving those lofty goals and is the driver of all we do!
Each day we meet at a different trail head in the greater San Luis Obispo area to head into nature to explore, learn and play. Poly Canyon, El Chorro Regional Park, Reservoir Canyon, Dinosaur Caves Beach and park are among the many places we visit in our exploration of our beautiful county. Children carry with them their lunch and snack, water bottle, and change of clothes. Julia, our Mentor, brings with her 1st Aid, field guides and glasses, extra water and a great sense of adventure and fun! Our day includes hiking, climbing, water play, and much much more! Locations are determined with consideration of travel distances for the families.
