Into the Badlands is an American television series that premiered on November 15, 2015, on AMC.[1] Into the Badlands has been described as "a high-octane sci-fi martial arts series"[2] and as a "post-apocalyptic drama".[3] The series follows a warrior and a young boy who journey through a dangerous feudal land together seeking enlightenment.[4] On February 9, 2019, AMC canceled the show after three seasons.[5] The series finale aired on May 6, 2019.[6]
Described as a "genre-bending martial arts series", the story is loosely based on the classic Chinese tale Journey to the West. AMC ordered six one-hour-long episodes of the action-drama developed by AMC Studios for a premiere in late 2015.[45] Executive producer Stephen Fung also serves as the series' action director alongside veteran Hong Kong choreographer, Ku Huen-chiu.[46] AMC renewed the show for a 10-episode second season, which premiered on March 19, 2017.[47] On April 25, 2017, AMC renewed the series for a 16-episode third season which premiered nearly a year later on April 22, 2018.[48]

The first season received mixed reviews from critics. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 54% approval rating with an average rating of 4.72/10 based on 39 reviews. The website's critical consensus reads, "Into the Badlands is loaded with off-kilter potential that's left largely unfulfilled -- although its well-choreographed action sequences should satisfy martial arts fans."[60] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 54 out of 100 based on 29 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[61]

Veil has been one of the most frustrating characters but I was starting to understand her and why Sunny fell in love with her. Its not just her pleasant nature. We saw in season one, that she was willing to challenge others when she was in a position to do so. She was never a floormat when she could help it. The key to understanding Veil is that she was a relatively powerless individual. She had no martial skills, she had no political power, and no kind of social clout, but what power she did have she wielded carefully.
We spent the bulk of our time this season shuttling back and forth between the Widow, Sunny and Quinn, the three major players in the narrative. We watched as the Widow connived, lied, and killed to consolidate her power, falling even further into the dark side.
AMC has announced the premiere date for the second half of the third and final season of Into the Badlands. AMC has released the full official trailer for season 3 of Into the Badlands. The trailer gives fans a look at the new antagonist, Pilgrim, a religious zealot looking to build a "new kingdom". With an army behind him, Pilgrim comes to the Badlands offering salvation but demanding submission. Referring to himself as "the messiah", Pilgrim asks M.K. to join him in bringing hope to the Badlands. At his command are two ruthless teenage soldiers with black eyes, who appear to share the same power as M.K. Pilgrim and the two teenagers are among the five new characters to join the cast for season 3. The other new characters include Pilgrim's priestess Cressida (Lorraine Toussaint) and Gaius Chau (Lewis Tan).
Showrunner Alfred Gough teased that season 3 would include bloodier, more "batshit crazy" martial arts fight scenes, which is indicated in the trailer by several sword battles and an impressive number of severed heads.
The first four episodes have relieved me of worry. The few times I thought we were headed into a filler episode wound up being related to a more interesting set of themes. Badlands is thus far not wasting any air on excessive fight sequences or side journeys. Each step in the path is certainly leading to a bigger and badder end.
Badlands season 3 starts with all of our heroes fractured apart from one another. Sunny is hiding with Henry, away from the politics and wars of the Barons. Lydia is running a refugee camp with Tilda as her right-hand woman. Tilda is calling herself the Iron Rabbit and is siphoning off goods from the Widow when she comes across Bajie as part of the cargo.

AMC announced in early 2019 that Into the Badlands season 4 has been canceled, so at this time, there is no air date. I'm about half-way through the first season, and enjoying it. It's not the best TV I've ever seen, but it's good enough to keep watching. The wu-shu is good, and the setting/background is done well on, as you say, a limited budget.

I enjoyed the first season - flawed as it is, it's entertaining. Interesting setting, indeed. The second season recently came to Netflix, and I am finding certain elements are beginning to grate on me. The Widow's ability to effortlessly dispatch armies of men single-handedly is not really that fun.
The study focuses on the evolution of the coastal badlands of the Vaches Noires cliffs (Normandy, France). The study aims to provide a better understanding of the functioning of these cliffs with badland morphology and to verify the potential of the TLS (Terrestrial Laser Scanner) tool to quantify the volumes moved and the rates of change. Thus, three related gullies (G2 to G4) with contrasting dynamics were monitored three to four times per year between September 26, 2014 and November 19, 2019. Each gully was divided into nine "Functional Morphological Units" (FMU) in order to identify the respective weight of erosion, transport and deposition of materials related to seasonal subaerial and marine forcing. A global assessment of the evolution over five years shows mainly an ablation in the upper part of the slopes, but also on the flanks and fronts of the crests. The middle and lower parts of the gullies alternate between erosion and deposition of materials while the basal scarp (foot of the cliff) is in progradation. By successively analysing the TLS models, seasonal patterns common to each gully are identified. We observe a pronounced hydro-gravitational dynamics in autumn/winter for all FMUs, a transition period in spring, then a period of relative stability in summer. Quantification of surface volumes transiting from upstream to downstream slopes shows that gully hydro-gravitational dynamics are unequal with periods of low, moderate and high activity between each gully. The volumes of materials produced during high or low activity ("High global activity" (Hga) and "Low global activity" (Lga)) are strongly correlated with the curve of cumulative rainfall.A conceptual model synthesizing the modalities of initiation of the hydro-gravitational processes in the different FMUs is proposed at the end of the article. For each season, the model provides ranges of quantified material volumes in each FMUs and specifies the role of meteorological configurations on the hydric state of marl-limestone slopes, put in perspective with other sites with badlands morphologies. Despite some limitations, the TLS tool remains relevant to monitor and spatialize the evolutionary processes of cliffs with complex topography and rapid morphological changes.
