The Minnesota Middle School Association (MMSA) was established in 1978 to serve as an education resource for teachers, administrators, parents, and community members who are concerned about the developmental need of young adolescents in grades five through nine. The Association is governed by up to 25 members on the board of directors who represent different regions around the state. MMSA is a non-profit organization that extends its membership to anyone interested in middle level education.
Workshops and Training
MMSA is committed to helping organize workshops and training sessions on a variety of middle level topics. MMSA can also provide a list of successful middle level schools in the state that you may visit or call on for information to further strengthen your own school programs.
Publications
Publications are sold at our publications booth the two days of our annual state conference. Attendees are able to look at books, purchase and take them home that day. A wide variety of middle school and curriculum orientated books are chosen each year. Also, a wide range of publications are available through the Association of Middle Level Education (AMLE) website.
Recognition
MMSA recognizes individuals and educators who have demonstrated outstanding service and commitment to quality education for young adolescents. The Coleen Yatckoske Award is presented annually to an exemplary middle level educator. Distinguished service awards are also presented to deserving members at the spring banquet.
