Costs vary by program and location, so it is important to do your research! To plan accordingly, ensure you understand all the program costs, how the program is billed to you, how your financial aid will apply to your selected program, as well as how cost compare to a semester on UC's campus.
Cost Comparisons
Before you start planning for your international experience, make sure you understand your current expenses.
Keep track of how much you spend on tuition, housing, meals, parking, gas, bills, going out, shopping, etc. per semester so you can budget for your study abroad experience.
Make sure you understand your current financial aid allowance and scholarships.
Each International Experience Program application has an estimated program budget included. It is recommended to compare your current expenses to the estimated program costs. A Cost comparison of The International Experience Program and 1 semester on-campus can be found on the Financial Planning Page.
If you don't have a passport, you'll need one to go abroad! Get started on your application process early. You must apply for your first passport in person. The Main Branch of the Hamilton County library (in downtown Cincinnati) offers both walk-in and appointment services for passport applications. To learn how to apply for a passport, please visit the U.S. Department of State. If you already have a passport, make sure it is valid at least 6 months past your travel dates, and renew your passport early if it is not.
Some countries also require a visa to enter. The program provider for The International Experience Program will provide assistance in securing the appropriate work authorization.
In order to participate in the program, you will need approval from either your Academic Adviser (students using this experience as an internship) or Co-op Adviser (students using this experience as a co-op). The purpose of the adviser approval is to ensure your academic schedule is not negatively impacted by your absence from campus.
Academic adviser or co-op adviser must sign the Adviser Approval Form to approve your participation in the program.

Students accepted into the International Experience Program must attend individual and/or group meetings with Professor Clark and personnel from the Academic Internship Council.
