Based on the Low Vision Rehabilitation Outcomes Study, the main complain that low vision patients have is heavily relying on others for help. Walking outside without the help from others is almost impossible and very dangerous. IntelliSight aims to help these low vision patients by designing a pair of sunglasses to help visually impaired individuals identify the environment around them. Although, navigation applications on the phone can show the surrounding area on a 2D plane, they require the user to interact heavily with the application to determine their physical context and surroundings.

IntelliSight targets this problem by designing a pair of sunglasses, equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), which relays location information with a simple motion of the head, and a camera, which can identify items captured in the picture. This device will directly capture the user’s position and orientation in order to determine any landmarks or buildings near the user. It will then relay the information to the user via headphones. The IMU, camera, battery, and Bluetooth module are all combined on a small footprint in order to fit on the sunglasses, with easy access to a charging port to improve usability.
