Who We Are

IntelliRes LLC is a research-driven spin-off from UMass Amherst (learn more), dedicated to translating AI-driven monitoring and control technologies into industrial-scale applications. These technologies build on our recent patents and research in autofocus, super-resolution, image registration, 3D imaging and metrology, deep learning–based model predictive control, physics-informed AI, and transformer models for multimodal sensing. Our solutions enable in-situ metrology&monitoring, and real-time intelligent control, helping industries achieve unprecedented accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.

Meet the Team

Xian Du, Ph.D. 

Founder 

Dr. Xian Du is the Founder of IntelliRes LLC and an associate professor at UMass Amherst. Before joining UMass, he was a research scientist at MIT (2011 -2018).  With nearly two decades of experience in machine learning, sensing, and imaging technologies for precision engineering, Dr. Du is a recognized leader in the field. https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=8iO-e8MAAAAJ&hl=en.

His expertise lies in inline monitoring and quality control for advanced manufacturing and precision engineering, achieved through the seamless integration of physics-informed machine learning, in-situ metrology, and multi-modal sensing. His pioneering research has earned him prestigious honors, including the NSF CAREER Award (2020) and the IEEE Region 1 Technological Innovation (Academic) Award (2024), recognizing his impact in advancing machine intelligence and sensing technologies for societal benefit.

Dr. Du's research has led to breakthroughs in AI-driven manufacturing and healthcare applications, bridging AI, advanced sensing, and printing technologies to tackle real-world challenges. His work has resulted in >50 high-impact journal articles, 2 edited books, 4 book chapters, 7 patents, 12 conference proceedings, and >50 conference presentations. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and currently serves as the Chair of the IEEE Springfield Section.

Rui Ma

Principal Research Engineer. 

Mr. Ma is an expert in machine vision and image process. He developed novel image registration algorithm, hardware-informed super-resolution imaging techniques and high precision 3D reconstruction tracking method for manufacturing and biomedical engineering applications. Two patents have been filed for these technologies. He is responsible for managing research projects, as well as the development and commercialization of computer vision and pattern recognition algorithms for the real time inspection of real-world high-precision (micro/nano scale) applications. His research expertise includes machine vision and artificial intelligence.
