InTASC Standard 4 requires that you be able to understand the central concepts, tools of inquiry and structures of the discipline(s) you teach and create learning experiences that make these aspects of the discipline accessible and meaningful for learners to assure mastery of the content.
Here's my breakdown. Standard 4 is about breaking down what you teach and connecting it across disciplines as well as making your discipline accessible and meaningful for every learner in your classroom. (Another word for discipline is "subject" like math, science, English, health, etc.) When it comes to using technology to make your discipline accessible, you need to consider your students' needs. How can technology help your students who are visually or hearing impaired? What about those who need to expend extra energy? Those who have difficulty paying attention during whole-group direct instruction? Those with dyslexia? Those who have autism? Assistive and adaptive technologies can help in each of these situations.
