Insu Chang

• Senior Researcher at General Motors Global R&D, Warren, MI, USA

• A Brief Biographical Sketch: Insu Chang was born in Seoul, South Korea. He received his B.S. (2006) and M.S. (2008) in Astronomy (Astronautics) from Yonsei University, focusing on spaceflight dynamics, control, and orbital mechanics. He earned his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2016, specializing in control, estimation, and optimization for nonlinear systems. He began his professional career at Caterpillar, contributing to control and optimization systems for heavy machinery, including multi-engine optimizer (MEO) and machine control applications such as AccuGrade. In 2016, he joined General Motors, where he currently serves as a Senior Researcher at Global R&D. At GM, he has worked on battery management systems, thermal management for electrified and combustion powertrains, and connected and automated vehicle systems, including productionization of the active thermal management system (iceHEAT) for MY25+ engine platforms. His work focuses on translating advanced control and optimization methods into production-ready engineering solutions. His technical interests include advanced control systems, system integration, and electrification technologies.
