A Brief Biographical Sketch: Insu Chang was born in Seoul, South Korea. He pursued his studies in Astronautics, focusing on spaceflight dynamics, control, and orbital mechanics in the Department of Astronomy at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Upon completing his B.S. (2006) and M.S. (2008) degrees, he came to the United States to pursue a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, specializing in guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C). While conducting his research on GN&C during his Ph.D. program, he developed a strong interest in the theory of control and estimation. Concurrently, he began his professional journey as a controls engineer at Caterpillar Inc., Mossville, IL, in 2013, while finalizing his Ph.D. thesis. In 2016, he obtained his Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL. Following his graduation, he transitioned to the automotive industry, joining General Motors in November 2016. Currently, he holds the position of a senior researcher in Global R&D at General Motors, specializing in advanced control, estimation, and optimization in various domains such as ICE and EV thermal management, battery management systems (BMS), and connected/automated vehicles (CAVs).
