The video we have proposed is an effective choice for our adult learners who have a post-secondary education. E-Learning Industry founder, Christopher Pappas, in 17 Tips to Motivate Learners, claims that adult learners have unique learning needs because they don’t see immediate rewards from their learning, have lost some of the academic habits they may have once consistently used, and may have less motivation because their learning is compelled by outside influences (Pappas, 2013). As a result, it is important for Instructional Designers to deliver immediate, practical knowledge through a variety of options that chunks information and is visually appealing, all while providing a personal connection (Pappas, 2013). Our video satisfies all of these requirements by focusing on quick delivery of practical information through video and infographics that are sectioned by topic. An on-camera narrator provides a personal connection. By sectioning the video into three main segments, learning is sequenced and chunked in a way that minimizes cognitive overload. Additionally, according to Reiser and Dempsey’s definition of constructivism, learning occurs when activities are “authentic to the discipline in which you are learning” (Reiser & Dempsey, 2018, p. 57). Using a multimedia instructional solution for this project is authentic because it employs the very theories, strategies, and design that are a part of the Educational Technology information which the learners are seeking.
