Learning Experience in Concept-Developed Projects

With over 15 years of extensive experience in mix-methods research and a strong background in education, my journey has converged into the dynamic realm of UX design and research. I've been fortunate to receive valuable professional guidance from wireframe design expert Delvin Peck, refining my skills.

I've avidly engaged with L&D communities and delved into teaching theories, including Bloom’s Taxonomy, Kirkpatrick’s Model, and Kathy Moore’s Action-Mapping. Currently pursuing the Google UX Designer certificate, I bring a comprehensive skill set that combines education, research, and design expertise.

My commitment to academia is reflected in my 15+ years of mix-methods research experience and my track record of publications. I've also spent over 6 years facilitating UX design and project management in the post-secondary sector, demonstrating my educational insights into developing impactful UX instruction and guidance for debuting IT specialists. My portfolio showcases a visionary project that mirrors the UX lifecycle and underscores my strategic approach to design.

Project 01 <Dispute Resolution <Best Practices for teachers>

This is a real-world supporting project that demonstrates needs assessment, Action-Mapping, storyboarding and mock-ups using Adobe XD. The project does not carry through to a full course using Storyline 360 or Capitvate but a sample set of interactive screens will soon be available to see how the course would work.

This scenario-based eLearning concept project was developed for new and returning teachers to refresh dispute resolutions skills according to school polices. It provides a review of best-practices for handling real-life conflict situations.

Problem and Solution

Data show increasing conflicts and violence in schools all over the globe (1) . Teachers are struggling to keep up with new prototocols and ways of dealing efficiently with new types of problems. Unresolved disputes can lead to multiple subsequent problems in the classroom, on the playground and on longterm behaviors.

These busy professionals do not always have time or finances to travel to a conference to refresh best-practices. Unfortunately, this often results in principles and support staff handling recovery work with students and parent calls. Maintaining strong and timely dispute resolutions are essential to providing positive learning experiences are essential to the students' and teachers' success.

New and occasional teachers may have little to no experience with dispute resolution. They also regularly experience high stress levels and frustration with how to implement best-practices effectively.

I recommend scenario-based eLearning that allows teachers and support staff to make decisions regarding dispute and conflict resolution in a risk-free environment. In addition, scenario-based eLearning will show teachers and support staff the realistic, memorable consequences of the most common mistakes. Seeing these consequences and practicing the correct actions will help them avoid making those mistakes in the real world.

Process

After assessing common stress points expressed by teachers, I defined  the goal and identified some specific steps teacher should take when resolving conflicts. With that information, I developed an action map and created a text-based storyboard. I began working on the visual mockups for the scenario-based eLearning experience in Adobe XD. I also used Photoshop and Canva to create visual assets.

I created a visual storyboard to see how the text and images would work together.

Importantly, while developing the action map, I identified some non-learning solutions for the teachers, administration and supporting community members. These suggestions are also included in the action map so that all goals can be met.

Action Map

I leveraged my own experience in primary education as well as inner-city sources to develop an action map and define the overall goal. I identified actions that teachers would take to resolve conflicts successfully. Some non-learning solutions that schools and communities might consider in their overall planning are also included in the Action Map in blue.

Project 02
Simply Sushi <Eight different tuna cuts: Which to order?>

This is an in-progress flagship project that demonstrates needs assessment, Action-Mapping, Storyboarding and mock-ups. The project carries through to a full course using Storyline Articulate 360.

This is a realworld eLearning tutorial project was developed for debuting sushi coneseurs who want to know  more about 8 common different cuts of tuna. It provides a short description of the anatomy, availability (pricing) and palette experiences you should expectation when ordering.

Problem and Solution

To assist sushi coneseruers avoid disappointment, this learning experience offers a short descriptive and visual tutorial on eight distinctive cuts of tuna. Restaurant goers can brushup their knowledge before going out, or us the simple tutorial as a reference while choosing from the menu. This flexible tool also provides learners to test their skills in a matching task, matching the descriptions of cuts to menu names to improve confidence when ordering. Lastly, a scenario-based learning experience allows the learners to walk through a few scenarios that challenge them to apply their newly attained knowledge to real-life experience in a low-risk environment. As we know, many sushi restaurants do not list daily market prices, so you don't want to be caught off-guard with a surprising check. Seeing these consequences and practicing the correct actions will help sushi coneseurs avoid any awkwardness in a real world resutrant.
