You can permanently delete an Instagram account on an iPhone through Meta’s Accounts Center. Open Instagram, visit your profile, enter the settings menu, and find the Deactivation or deletion option. After selecting the correct profile, choose Delete account and complete the confirmation process.
Deleting the Instagram app from your iPhone does not delete your account. Your profile, posts, followers, comments, and messages remain available until you submit a permanent deletion request.
The deletion option is found inside Accounts Center rather than the standard Edit profile section. Instagram may adjust menu names between app versions, but the account deletion setting remains connected to profile management.
Follow these steps:
Open the Instagram app on your iPhone.
Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
Tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner.
Open Accounts Center.
Select Personal details or Manage accounts.
Open Account ownership and control.
Tap Deactivation or deletion.
Select the Instagram account you want to remove.
Choose Delete account.
Tap Continue and follow the confirmation instructions.
Instagram may ask you to select a reason for leaving and enter your password again. This additional step helps prevent someone with temporary access to your phone from deleting the account.
Meta’s current instructions direct users through Accounts Center and the Deactivation or deletion section. Some accounts may see slightly different labels, including Profiles and personal details or Manage accounts.

Make sure you select the correct profile before confirming deletion. Many people manage personal, business, and secondary accounts from the same Instagram application.
The confirmation screen should display the username or profile connected to the deletion request. Stop the process if the username is not the one you intended to remove.
Deleting one Instagram profile does not automatically delete every profile displayed in Accounts Center. The request applies to the individual account you select.
Download your account information before deleting Instagram if you want to keep your photos, videos, comments, or other records. After permanent deletion, you will no longer have access to Instagram’s export tool for that profile.
To request a copy:
Open Accounts Center.
Select Your information and permissions.
Tap Export your information.
Select Create export.
Choose the Instagram profile.
Select Export to device.
Choose the information, date range, format, and media quality.
Start the export.
Instagram allows users to customize the information included in the export. When the file is ready, it remains available for a limited period in the download area. Meta notes that preparing an export can sometimes take up to 30 days.

After you confirm the request, Instagram schedules the account for permanent deletion. Your profile should no longer be visible to other users while the request is being processed.
Instagram commonly gives users a cancellation period before permanent removal. The exact deadline should appear on your confirmation screen. Signing back in before that date may allow you to stop the deletion.
Once the deadline passes, your profile, photos, videos, likes, comments, and follower connections cannot normally be recovered. Instagram also states that the complete technical removal process can take up to 90 days, with some backup copies retained for recovery, legal, or security purposes.
You may be able to cancel Instagram deletion by logging back into the account before the displayed deadline.
Open Instagram, enter your username and password, and review the message shown after signing in. Select the option to keep the account or cancel deletion.
Do not wait until the final day if you have changed your mind. Login issues, password problems, or security checks could prevent you from accessing the cancellation option in time.
Choose permanent deletion only when you are certain that you no longer want the account. If you simply need a break, temporary deactivation is safer.
Deactivation hides your profile and content until you sign back in. It does not permanently erase your posts or follower connections. The option is available from the same Deactivation or deletion menu.
Before completing the process, verify the profile, save important information, and note the cancellation deadline shown by Instagram.
