Explore InsightMed's journey through our past events.
At the Guilderland Public Library Family STEAM Night, our members hosted a display to educate families about the various parts of the brain. They ran an interactive activity where participants could create "Brain Hats" and explore the inner workings of the human mind.
In May of 2024, our team participated in the Health & Wellness Fair at the Hindu Cultural Center, showcasing a display on the Implications of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare. Here, you can see some of our executive members diligently working on our trifold.
At InsightMed's virtual 4-week research bootcamp, we guided our mentees through the process of writing their own scientific research papers. Drawing on our expertise, we provided in-depth knowledge on research methodologies, data analysis, and effective scientific writing, allowing participants to develop and articulate their own research findings. If you would like to explore the papers published from our bootcamp, click on the "Published Papers" tab.
For this event, InsightMed and Saturday Scholars partnered to host hygiene clinics for children in Kindergarten through fifth grade. We introduced health topics to elementary students in an age-appropriate way using stuffed animals, focusing specifically on topics that they are likely to encounter, whether directly or indirectly. The event featured five case studies: heat exhaustion, Epi-Pens, hypoglycemia, first aid kits, and dental hygiene. The program took place at William K. Sanford Library and the Guilderland Public Library. We are planning on hosting more clinics in the spring, so stay tuned!
Dr. Colin Whaley is an Internal Medicine resident at the University of Toronto. With an MD from McMaster University and an MSc in Pharmacy from the University of Waterloo, Dr. Whaley brings expertise in patient-physician communication, health services research, and support for vulnerable populations. He‘s a passionate teacher and mentor, eager to share insights on the path to medical school. This virtual session started with Dr. Whaley sharing his journey through medical school, his experiences as an Internal Medicine resident, and his work in healthcare research. After his presentation, we opened the floor for questions, giving everyone a chance to ask about his career path, the med school application process, or anything else attendees were curious about.
