What is the @home series?

Design Studio

Two creative design sessions!

Teachers are invited to join us for virtual planning sessions with museum educators for an opportunity to co-design engaging activities that fit your planned classroom instruction in any curriculum area. You may not teach STEM directly but you can insert STEM excitement into any of your science, mathematics, ELA, or social studies lessons. The excitement of STEM can fit anywhere and help to engage students more directly in the content you already teach. Designed activities will lead up to an evening event for students and their families.

One fabulous virtual event!

Introduce your students and their families to our museums through a virtual Family STEM Night and explore the museum guided by museum staff. You will have an opportunity to co-host the evening event as a school or classroom and allow your families an opportunity to engage with your instructional concepts as well as all that the museum has to offer. Enjoy a lesson, a tour, and a night at the museum.

Aurora Fossil Museum

The Aurora Fossil Museum is a natural science museum in Aurora, North Carolina (Beaufort County). The museum's collection is built around fossils recovered from the nearby phosphate mine. The unique geologic history of the area makes it the perfect spot to search for and collect fossil specimens of many sizes and types including invertebrates (animals without backbones), vertebrates (animals with backbones), and a plethora of rocks and minerals. The museum also has a rich history as it sits along the Pamlico River and is the home of many indigenous tribes and the oldest new world settlement in North Carolina. The staff has amazing expertise in the geology, paleontology, geography, and history of the region which will make Family STEM Night something no family will want to miss.
