Available after school on weekdays (subject to availability), at the same time each week during the school term. Lessons can run on public holidays or during school holidays at student/parent request.
Lessons are 20 minutes - 1 hour, depending on the age, level and goals of the student. Length will be determined at teacher discretion, and may change as the student progresses.
Payment is to be made weekly, and accepted via cash or EFT (internet banking), with details available upon request. A receipt at the end of each term will be provided.
Exams - AMEB or ACM - (additional fee) are encouraged. I will inform parents when students are eligible for exams. Beginner students may will not be eligible in their first year of piano education.
Students are welcome to enter local competitions / eisteddfods.
While students can begin their musical journey at any age, 8 years old is often the 'sweet spot' for starting, as the hand span and fine motor skills are typically well-developed.
Lessons are held out of my Edmonton home. Parents are welcome to sit and observe the first lesson.
To limit cost for parents, beginner lesson resources are provided. Parents may need to purchase books/supplies upon request. Students should present to each lesson with a display folder.
Students must have their own instrument at home. If an acoustic piano is not financially viable, it is highly recommended that students learn at home on an 88-key full-sized keyboard with weighted keys, on a solid stand/bench, with at least one attached pedal (or capability to plug in a pedal). Students can learn for a limited time on a 61-key common keyboard, however they will quickly out-grow this.
Consistency is important. Please provide at least 24 hours for cancellations to avoid being charged. Regular attendance is required to maintain your spot in the schedule. If you're running late, we will still need to wrap up on time to stay on schedule for the next student.
Students may opt for Zoom (video) lessons.
The teacher may travel to your residence for a negotiated additional fee.
$30 / 20-min lesson
$40 / 30-min lesson
$60 / 45-min lesson
$80 / 60-min lesson
A 30-minute lesson, or longer, is preferred. The teacher may recommend the lesson length to suit the student. Video (Zoom) lessons incur the same fee. Lesson costs are subject to change, and lesson length is subject to availability.
Students will progress only as much as they practice. The amount of practice a student needs varies based on their age, skill, and goals. Consistency is key. Many students find it more practical to break up their practice between the morning (before school) and afternoon (after school). Practicing regularly is more important than the total number of minutes in a single session.
